St. Louis, Sept. 9, 2008 – Thompson Coburn LLP, the largest law firm in St.
Louis, will renew its headquarters office lease at the U.S. Bank Plaza in
downtown St. Louis for a term of twelve years. Thompson Coburn chairman Tom
Minogue announced the agreement this afternoon in a news conference in the
office of St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay.
“This decision culminates a search process that has taken the
better part of two years, and has led us right back to where it began, at our
current home in the U.S. Bank Plaza. The decision was a tough one because of
the very professional and attractive proposals we received from a number of
locations. At the end of this process, however, we are confident that we made
the right choice for us. We are excited to remain part of the ongoing
renaissance of downtown St. Louis, and are looking forward to continuing to
share office space with our fine client U.S. Bank,” said Minogue.
“Keeping Thompson Coburn downtown is important because they are
one of our larger employers and bigger taxpayers,” Mayor Slay said. “I have a
great deal of respect for the work they do as lawyers and the integrity they
demonstrate as a corporate citizen. But, Thompson Coburn is much more than
that—to the City and to downtown. They are one of the region’s largest
professional firms, and their presence downtown is a very important part of
downtown’s and the City’s image. This high-profile firm’s decision to remain
downtown affirms our belief that downtown is the best location in the region
for the region’s best professional firms. We are thrilled that the firm has
made this decision. We want Thompson Coburn to continue to be a big part of the
momentum that now characterizes downtown.”
Joe Imbs, Regional Chairman and St. Louis Market President of
U.S. Bank, added “We are absolutely delighted that Thompson Coburn will be with
us for the next twelve years. We have a fantastic relationship with the firm
and, like Thompson Coburn, are fully committed to playing a leadership role in
the downtown business community.”
Minogue described the highlights of the agreement as follows:
-
A lease term of twelve years.
-
A fully competitive rent and financing package.
-
Rental space of 240,000 square feet.
-
Construction of a new, additional parking structure south of the U.S. Bank
Plaza, which will enable all Thompson Coburn employees to park in a garage
attached to the building.
-
Upper-floor exterior signage that will identify the building as the home of
Thompson Coburn.
-
A tax incentive and financing package from the City of St. Louis that will
assist the firm in enhancing its facilities.
In addition to the new lease agreement, Thompson Coburn plans a
remodeling of its space valued at more than $10 million.
“In the legal profession today, maintaining facilities that are
on the cutting edge of technology and productivity is a never-ending job. Our
commitment to a long-term presence at U.S. Bank Plaza, plus a remodeling of our
facilities, will keep our firm on that cutting edge, enabling us to continue to
provide the best working environment for our people and the best work for our
clients,” Minogue said.
